Cill repairs
Lock 3, Oxclose Lock

Update on 14/05/2021:

We have Canal and River Trust staff on site today and the stops are going in today.

We envisage that the lock will be dewatered by Monday evening.

We will update the notice when we receive further information on the progression of the works.

Update on 07/05/2021:

Early next week, our Direct Services team will be on site to start dewatering the lock.  Once the lock is empty, we will have a clearer indication of the issue and from there a timescale for the repairs.

We will update the notice on the 14th May 2021 with progression of the works and timescale for the completion of the Oxclose Lock repairs to the lock floor/cill

Update on 29/04/2021:

Our operational team attempted to undertake a temporary repair on Tuesday with the assistance of divers. It was hoped that this would provide a limited amount of penning through the lock until permanent repairs could be undertaken. Unfortunately this was not successful as a large void has opened beneath the lock floor, meaning there is nothing to anchor a repair to.

Our Direct Services construction team are now planning for permanent repair works to be undertaken and we will be able to advise of a timescale for this next week (w/c 3rd May 2021). In the meantime the lock remains out of use.

Update on 26/04/2021:

Our direct services team have been on site to start planning works and following the site investigation 2 holes were found in the lock floor. One is 220mm by 1.2 metres and the second hole is 115 x 115 mm square approx.

At this time, penning of any vessels is not possible.

Canal and River Trust are looking at other options and further information will be published when available.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1pm Tuesday 20 April 2021 until further notice)

The floor under the bottom gate cill has failed therefore the lock is not able to be filled to allow passage.

Whilst the lock is now closed, our team have been on site this morning undertaking further investigations to identify the repair required.

We apologise for any disruption this causes to cruising plans and we will provide a further update by the end of the day on Friday 23rd April 2021.
