Starts At: Lock 2, Hillmorton Bottom Lock (Tp)
Ends At: Lock 7, Hillmorton Top Lock (Os)
RESTRICTION (8am Tuesday 31 August 2021 until further notice)
Reservoir holdings in the South Oxford Canal are lower than usual for this time of year, in addition we are seeing low flows in the River Swift that feeds the North Oxford Canal. To maximise the available water, the Trust is taking the sensible precaution of locking targeted locks up overnight. This measure is intended to reduce the potential for water losses overnight and allow back pumps more time to transfer water from the Longford Pound to the Braunston Pound, and onto the South Oxford Summit.
From Tuesday 31st August Hillmorton Locks (2 to 7) will be locked up overnight from 6pm, with last entry into the flight at 4.30pm. Locks will be opened from 8am the following morning.
Boaters also have a really important role to play and we ask that they help us to save water by making sure that all gates and paddles are closed after use, sharing a lock if possible and waiting for oncoming boats where appropriate.
