Lock 30 – Kilby Lock

Update on 04/08/2023:

Our maintenance team has completed the repairs and are able to re-open Kilby Lock. Boaters can now proceed as normal.

Update on 03/08/2023:

Our maintenance team continue with the essential repairs to Kilby Lock and plan to complete the works by tomorrow afternoon. 

We will then re-open the lock and boaters will be able to proceed as normal.  

We will update the website tomorrow at 12pm, or as soon as we have confirmation of the completed works. 

Update on 01/08/2023:

The new cills will be fitted by the end of today (Tuesday 1st August) and concreted tomorrow morning, Wednesday 2nd August.  

Provided the concrete has gone off sufficiently, we hope to be able to rewater and re-open the lock on Thursday afternoon.  

This notice will be updated on Thursday 3rd August. 

Update on 28/07/2023:

Due to a combination of factors outside of our control, which have affected our resources, we are unable to continue with the repair works to Kilby Lock over the weekend.  

However, our maintenance team will be back on site first thing on Monday 31st July and aim to complete the required repairs before the end of the week.  

Update on 27/07/2023:

The essential maintenance work continues to progress at Kilby Lock.  

We will have more information tomorrow with regards what stage of completion we are at and will update the website accordingly.  

Update on 25/07/2023:

Following a further engineering inspection, a solution has been developed and arrangements are being made to get materials to site so the required repairs can be carried out.  

We will update the website on Thursday 27th July with further updates on the progress of this stoppage.  

Update on 24/07/2023:

Work has commenced at Kilby Lock today and our maintenance team has discovered that the lock cill is non-existent.  

We are unable to provide an accurate timeframe for the cill replacement work at this point but we will update the website by Friday 4th August, or sooner if we have more information. 

Update on 21/07/2023:

The crane boat is now on site, materials are being delivered and preparations are being made to begin the extensive work required at Kilby Lock next week.  

This is a complex job and unfortunately we do not currently have a time scale of when the works will be completed.  

We will update the website by the end of July, as soon as we have more updates.  

Update on 18/07/2023:

Due to the extent of the damage caused at Kilby lock 30, on the Leicester Line, a crane boat is required for further investigations and to begin the required works.  

Once the crane boat is on site, we will have a better idea of time scale for how long the repairs will take and we will update the website accordingly on Friday 21st July. 

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Monday 17 July 2023 until further notice)

Due to damage at Kilby lock 30, on the Leicester Line, the navigation is closed at this lock.

Our team are currently on site to assess the lock damage and plan in the necessary repairs.

We will update the website on Tuesday 18th July with further information following our investigations.
