Caen Hill flight
Starts At: Lock 29, Devizes Lock
Ends At: Lock 44, Sir Hugh Stockwell
RESTRICTION (1pm Thursday 6 April 2023 until further notice)
Please be advised that a navigation restriction will need to be introduced for the Caen Hill flight from Lock 29 (Devizes Lock) to Lock 44 (Sir Hugh Stockwell). This restriction will take effect from the 24th April 2023 for a 12-week period. The opening hours of the flight will be 10:00 to 16:00hrs daily with last entry at 13:00. This navigation restriction will run concurrently with the existing restriction on the Crofton and Wootton Rivers flights, where the opening hours are presently 09:30 to 15:30hrs daily.
The reason for this navigation restriction is to preserve water supplies and help recovery of water levels whilst critical upgrade and maintenance works are carried out to the pumping infrastructure at Caen Hill Pumping Station. It is important for our boating customers to note that during the works there are likely to be some changes in water levels which we will be closely monitoring. Through careful water management and backup mitigation measures, we hope to avoid the requirement for further navigation restrictions or a temporary canal stoppage.
