Lock 72, Cobblers Lock
Update on 21/08/2023:
Further to the notice below, the team have agreed plans to effect a temporary repair to the lock gates and believe the repair can be carried out without the need for dewatering the lock.
A workboat has been mobilised and will collect materials on the way.
Dependent on availability of timber from our suppliers, it is expected to be on site for work to take place on Friday 25th August.
We anticipate completion the same day and, subject to testing of the repair, hope to have with the navigation open by 5pm Friday 25th August.
Update on 18/08/2023:
Further to the notice below, we are sorry to advise that Cobblers Lock has further deteriorated, so we have made the unfortunate decision to close this lock.
Engineers are carrying out further investigations which may include a dewatering of the lock.
We will update this notice when we have more information.
In the meantime, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
Update on 15/08/2023:
Further to the notice below, engineers have now been to assess the lock.
Whilst close monitoring is in place, Cobblers Lock will be manned from 1000 hours to 1200 hours daily to allow assisted passage.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however this will allow our engineers to assess the lock and structure whilst in use
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (1.15pm Monday 14 August 2023 until further notice)
We are sorry to advise that the downstream lock gate at Cobblers Lock has sustained damage.
Unfortunately, this means that the lock is currently inoperable.
Our engineers are currently assessing the repair strategy.
We will update this notice with further information on Tuesday afternoon, 15th August.
