PROTESTERS in Lincoln have raised fresh concerns over the state of the Foss Dyke and River Witham, claiming the waterways are now “choked” with thick, fast-growing weed.
Boaters and anglers gathered at Brayford Pool, saying they pay significant licence fees yet see little maintenance in return.
The protest was organised by members of the Burton Waters Boat Club. Commodore Lee Bonham said campaigners want urgent dredging and bank-side cutting, warning weed levels have surged dramatically in recent years and are now hampering navigation.

The Canal & River Trust said warmer conditions and nutrient-rich run-off are fuelling rapid growth and that the issue cannot be solved by the charity alone.
