THE annual Revolution Festival returned to the Falkirk Wheel in May, celebrating sport with activities, live music and family entertainment.
Canal Listening launches
An immersive art installation at the wheel in early July marked the start of Canal Listening, a new arts and research project led by artist Andrew J Brooks and Scottish Canals.
The project will create a community sound map capturing the social and ecological life of the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals using voices, music and environmental recordings.

Kelvin Aqueduct repairs reveal more of its structure
REPAIRS to the Kelvin Aqueduct at Maryhill on the Forth & Clyde Canal have provided rare views into the structure, revealing more about its engineering.
Scottish Canals is working with Maryhill Burgh Halls on an exhibition for later in the year, all about the canal, focussed on Maryhill Locks.
Lock 21 bypass work
SCOTTISH Canals is installing a lock bypass at lock 21 on the Maryhill flight to improve control of water levels on the canal.
The work also extends Smart Canal technology, allowing water levels on the summit section to be lowered automatically ahead of heavy rainfall to create capacity for surface water.
Narrow Escapes returns
CHANNEL 4’S Narrow Escapes returned to our screens in June, featuring Scotland’s waterways for the first time.
The new series follows cousins Graham and Caroline exploring the Caledonian Canal, while Peter and Noni travel the Union Canal and the Falkirk Wheel.
