The Sankey Canal Restoration Society has formally adopted Earlestown Train Station – and you are invited to get involved.
The station, located near the historic Sankey Canal, England’s first modern canal, sits in the heart of a transport corridor that shaped regional trade and engineering.
Under the adoption scheme, SCRS volunteers are carrying out regular maintenance, gardening to boost biodiversity, litter-picking, and installing heritage interpretation to help passengers understand the area’s industrial past.

The group said: “By adopting the station, SCRS aims to enhance its surroundings, celebrate its heritage, and create a more welcoming space for passengers, visitors, and the local community.”
It is inviting new volunteers of all ages to join its task teams, stressing that no experience is needed – only enthusiasm and a willingness to support local heritage.
