A RENEWED focus on Exeter’s waterways will take centre stage this summer as Sustainable Seas Day brings a full day of activity to East Quay.

The free community event, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, is being organised by the Exeter Heritage Harbour Group and aims to celebrate the city’s maritime past while drawing attention to the urgent need for cleaner, healthier rivers and coastal waters. According to organisers, the quayside will become a hub of hands‑on demonstrations, traditional craft displays and environmental engagement, with historic vessels opening their decks to visitors eager to explore Exeter’s nautical heritage. Alongside the activity on the water, the Haven Banks Centre will host a programme of talks, lectures and film screenings, while live music and sea‑song performances are expected to spill out across the quay. Participants will be offered free coffee and pizza, and the Piazza will run a bustling farmers’ market throughout the day.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Exeter Canal & Quay Trust, the Friends of Exeter Ship Canal & Heritage Harbour and Exeter City Council, which hope the celebration will encourage residents to reconnect with the city’s waterways and consider their role in protecting them.
