Moira festival returns with nostalgic wartime flypast
MOIRA Canal Festival returns to the historic Moira Furnace on the banks of the restored Ashby Canal on May 16/17 May, marking its 23rd year.

Organisers have lined up a packed programme of on and off-water attractions, from boats and canal activities to the festival’s annual duck race. Top of the bill is Britain’s Got Talent finalist Mike Woodhams, a singer, entertainer and impressionist renowned for pitch-perfect takes on stars from Lulu to Kate Bush and David Bowie to Beyoncé.
The weekend will also feature live music, children’s entertainment, classic cars, Morris dancing, stalls and exhibits. A highlight for many is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, scheduled to take place on both days.
The festival showcases the Ashby Canal and raises funds for the Ashby Canal Trust, supporting its work to continue restoring the waterway.
