Hot on the heels of the possibility of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Lego, as reported last month, another imaginative fan is making a bid to preserve traditional canalia through the iconic toy brand.
BRITAIN’S waterways are making a splash in the world of Lego, as enthusiasts rally behind two imaginative campaigns to preserve canal heritage.

Following last month’s spotlight on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, fans are now championing a vibrant narrowboat model, hoping to see it join Lego’s celebrated collection. With hundreds already casting their votes online, supporters say these models would not only honour the UK’s rich canal history but also inspire a new generation to embrace life on the water.
As the appeals gather momentum, the public is urged to help them reach the crucial 10,000-vote threshold, paving the way for their inclusion in the toy brand’s offering.

The narrowboat design has been created by SJ’s Workshop, which, at the time of this issue going to press, had gained more than 670 votes.
The voting page reads: “Cast off on this narrowboat, built for life on the canals and packed with detail! With a full interior, this houseboat uses a classic colour scheme and is steered with a rudder at the back. Inside, you can find all you’ll need for a life on the water! There’s a living space, shower room and bedroom, all full of small details and homely accessories.

“See if you can spot the owner’s crochet in her bedroom (made with minifig hair and chopsticks pieces) or guess what she might be cooking in the kitchen area. And, of course, no boat would be complete without a ship’s dog!
“This model has plenty of playability but is also a perfect display piece for your shelf at home. It would make an ideal set for kids and grown-ups alike – anyone who dreams of a simpler life on the water, surrounded by wildlife.”
One voter commented: “All our family and friends love time spent on a barge on the river – it’s healthy, fun, and very social. A Lego version of the boat would be a wonderful way to spark interest in the younger generation to seek out fun times in the open air. We would love one to keep on the boat and to give as gifts to boating friends.”

“I’m going to live on one and would love to have this on board,” another said, while this voter added: “This is lovely. I am fortunate to live near to a canal, and I love looking at the narrowboats when I walk on the canal path. I’d love to have this as a set.” “So colourful and such a unique idea,” said another. “I especially love all the little homely touches.”
Meanwhile, the campaign for rendering the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in Lego continues. As this issue was being prepared, voting stood at more than 1000.
As reported, it is being supported by Glandŵr Cymru, the Canal & River Trust in Wales, which said:
“The possibility of it being added into Lego’s global collection – with both the historic links it has to this part of Wales and the popularity Lego has worldwide – is incredibly fitting.”
