Jonathan White, President of The Rivers Trust, has been awarded an OBE in recognition of his outstanding services to river conservation, following an announcement in the King’s Honours.
A long-standing and highly respected figure within the waterways and environmental sector, Jonathan has dedicated many years to championing the protection, restoration and long-term health of the UK’s rivers. In addition to his current role as President of The Rivers Trust, he previously served as Chair of both The Rivers Trust and the Severn Rivers Trust, helping to shape strategy and strengthen collaboration across the movement.

Reacting to the honour, Jonathan was keen to recognise the collective effort behind the work.
“This award really belongs to the many committed people I’ve had the privilege to work with across The Rivers Trust movement – staff, trustees and volunteers alike,” he said. “Their dedication to restoring and protecting our rivers is both inspiring and essential.
“It’s encouraging to see the importance of healthy rivers recognised in this way, and I hope the award helps draw further attention to the urgent challenges our rivers face.”
Throughout his involvement with river conservation, Jonathan has played a key role in strengthening The Rivers Trust movement from within, while also offering generous personal support through fundraising and advocacy. His contribution has helped drive forward projects that improve water quality, restore habitats and reconnect communities with their local rivers.
The OBE recognises not only Jonathan’s personal commitment, but also the growing national recognition of the importance of healthy rivers to wildlife, communities and the wider environment.
