Further to the notice below, please be advised that the navigation is now open upstream of Brunsden Lock.
Contractors have removed sections of the tree which may mean there is debris in the water.
Please proceed with caution.
Full clearance of the tree will take place once the wasps have abandoned the nest.
Update on 03/10/2023:
Further to the notice below, please be advised that due to the location of the wasps nest in the fallen tree upstream of Brunsden Lock, and its very close proximity to the water, contractors are currently reviewing their methodology.
We will keep customers fully updated throughout and share any further updates including completion dates as soon as possible.
RESTRICTION (12.45pm Saturday 30 September 2023 until further notice)
Please be advised that a large willow tree has fallen across the canal upstream of Brunsdon Lock. Contractors have attended site and partially cleared the tree from the navigation. They are unable to remove all the tree due to at least one wasp nest as the base of the trunk. Contractors will be re attending site Monday to clear the tree once the wasp nest has been dealt with.
Navigation is possible for narrow beam boats however we have reports that wide beams cannot navigate past what remains of the tree.
