RESTRICTION (8am Saturday 26 August until 6pm Sunday 27 August 2023)
Gloucester Rowing Club will be holding its annual regatta on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal over the weekend of 26th & 27th August.
Side by side racing will take place from 8am to 6pm on both days, between Hempsted & Netheridge Bridges.
The rowing club will make every endeavour to manage boats through the regatta as quickly as safely possible, within the race schedule, but significant delays are probable for all craft, including canoes and paddleboards, with through traffic being held between Sims and Netheredge and North of Hempsted Bridges.
We respectfully ask all canal users to be patient, navigate with extreme caution and follow instructions by GRC marshalls, safety boat crews & trust staff.
GRC does not operate VHF radios but does have a local radio net to communicate along the length of the regatta course.
If any other canal user wishes to communicate with the organisers please either ;
- approach any marshal with a radio
- call Hempsted Bridge
- or call GRC Event Secretary Robert Dibley on 07966 568 791.
The visitor moorings adjacent to Hempsted Bridge are likely to be very congested because of rowing boat movement & the club requests that vessels avoid mooring at this location over the weekend in order to minimise risks.
Any boat moored at this point is likely to be trapped on the mooring for significant periods of time.
