Update on 27/10/2022:

Due to the continued improvement in water levels, navigation remains open along the Ashton Canal without restriction.

Should customers find themselves approaching an empty pound during this navigational window, please contact our North West Customer Support Team for assistance on 0303 040 4040.

Please be reminded, the planned winter works programme starts week commencing Monday 7 November with closures implemented across the winter period. Please check your route for any upcoming closures that may affect your journey.

This will remain under review and subject to the weather over the next coming weeks.

Update on 12/10/2022:

Due to an improvement in water levels, in addition to the planned re-opening of the surrounding canals, navigation will resume along the Ashton Canal from Friday 21 October, for a period of 10 days, with last passage on Monday 31 October to allow customers to return back to home or winter moorings.

This window of navigation remains subject to the weather over the next coming weeks.

Update on 02/09/2022:

We are pleased to advise water levels have increased and the pounds are replenishing well between Lock 1 and Lock 18 on the Ashton Canal. We are allowing water levels to continue to recharge over the weekend and navigation will resume from 8am, Monday 5 September.

Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Ashton Canal due to low water levels.

Our teams are continuing to conduct water management duties and are closely monitoring the levels.

Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Ashton Canal due to low water levels.

Our teams are continuing to conduct water management duties and are closely monitoring the levels. We apologise for the inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause our boating customers and boating businesses.

Update on 22/08/2022:

Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Ashton Canal due to low water levels.

Our teams are continuing to conduct water management duties and are closely monitoring the levels and a further update will be provided by Friday 26 August.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (4.30pm Friday 19 August 2022 until further notice)

Due to the continuing dry weather, the amount of water coming into the Ashton Canal is now insufficient to allow navigation. We have therefore taken the decision to close the canal to navigation with immediate effect and will review the situation again on Monday 22 August. In the meantime, our teams continue to work on a system of operation to be able to resume navigation.
