We are pleased to advise the water levels have recuperated well over the weekend and navigation has resumed on the Ashton Canal. Our teams will continue to monitor the water levels and may need to close the navigation at short notice should the levels begin to decrease again.
NAVIGATION CLOUSRE (2pm Thursday 21 July 2022 until further notice)
Due to the continuing dry weather and knock-on impacts from planned reservoir works, the amount of water coming into the Ashton Canal is now insufficient to allow navigation. We have therefore taken the decision to close the canal to navigation with immediate effect and will review the situation again on Monday 25th July. In the meantime, our teams continue to work on a system of operation to be able to resume navigation, albeit with significant restrictions. It is likely, however that the closure will continue beyond 25th July.
