Ely Pump Out

EMERGENCY CLOSURE (Thursday 2 May 2024 until further notice)

Please be aware that the Pump Out at Ely is out of action until further notice. Once repaired, this notice will be rescinded.

ADVICE (Friday 3 May 2024 until further notice)

As you are aware, the River Nene is currently in Strong Stream, however, locks will be reversed due to the forthcoming weather conditions.
The locks are being reversed today, 03 May 2024, and will remain reversed until Strong Stream is lifted.

Upware Lock

EMERGENCY CLOSURE (Thursday 2 May until Friday 3 May, 2024)

Due to unforseen circumstances, Upware Lock will be closed for repair works
today and tomorrow, 2 May and 3 May 2024, between 07:30 and 17:00.

Please be aware that there will be an Emergency Closure at Upware Lock for permanent bridge parapet repair works. The Lock will be closed between the hours of 07:30 to 17:00 on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Please be aware there is a tree restricting 90% of the navigation 200m Upstream of the entrance
to Twenty Pence Marina.
Please proceed with caution if navigating in this area

UPDATE 26/04/2024

Following five months of flooding which included four severe flood events the river has been hit hard.

Our teams are currently accessing the condition of our structures and the navigation and working through the issues, an update is as below.

Harvington Lock – One bottom gate has failed so only passable by boats with a maximum beam of 11 feet.

UPDATE. Damaged gate is now strapped closed. Dredging of the lock to allow an underwater survey is planned for week commencing 29/04/24.

Evesham Lock – Top waiting mooring (Weir Barrier) blocked with large tree debris and unusable so we advise that it is unsafe to navigate downstream through lock.

UPDATE. Top waiting mooring of 70 feet in length has been cleared. Warning the rest of the barrier and boom remain covered with debris. We are waiting instruction form the EA.

Pershore Lock – Blocked by debris and silt so impassable.

UPDATE. This was cleared and the lock is operable as of Tuesday 23/04/24.

Nafford Lock – Lock blocked by debris and silt so impassable.

UPDATE. This was cleared Wednesday 23/04/24 and is passable with care. There are shallows above the lock so care should be taken when navigating.

Tewkesbury Lock – Due to damage caused by submersion of the control panel the lock was inoperable.

UPDATE. Following significant work by our contractors to rebuild the panel the lock became operable as of 08/03/24.

All Lock sides and moorings – are covered with silt and debris and are unsafe to use.

UPDATE. We are working through the sites. We have cleared 11 of our 17 lock sites so far with Pershore, Wyre, Offenham, Harvington, Weir Brake and Stratford Trinity yet to be cleared.

Lock gates and paddle gear may be heavy due to the effect of the floods.

Parts of the navigation channel – may have large debris, submerged hazards and be silted so care should be taken when navigating.

UPDATE. We have surveyed the river and checked for obvious hazards however care still should be taken when navigating. Any major hazards we will issue separate warnings about.

Evesham pump out unit – is currently inoperable due to damage caused by submersion.

UPDATE. Our contractors have rebuilt the pump out and it is now fully operable.

Pershore pump out unit – Currently inoperable due to damage caused by submersion.

UPDATE. Our contractors have refurbished this and it became operable as of 15/03/24.

 We advise that safe navigation is possible with care. If you wish to navigate we recommend that before you set off please ring 0300 999 2010 to check the latest state of the navigation and log your passage.

In the coming weeks our teams, volunteers  and contractors will continue to work through the post flood recover works as well as continuing to assess the navigation. We will issue updates as the situation changes

Upware Lock

Updated 26/04/2024:

Emergency Closure Notice for Upware Lock issued earlier today is now rescinded as the issue has been resolved and the lock has reopened.

Please be aware that Upware Lock is temporarily closed until further notice due to electronic malfunction.
The issue will be remedied as soon as possible, and we will provide an update once the lock is reopened.

ADVICE (Tuesday 30 April 2024)

Please be advised that contractors on behalf of the landowner will be carrying out tree works in the
St Neots Lock area including the tree adjacent to the upstream Landing Stage on the above date.
Please navigate with caution whilst in the area and take heed of any contractor signage.

Downstream of Orton Lock

The Navigation Advisory Notice issued on 26 April 2024 regarding tree in Navigation downstream of Orton Lock is now rescinded as the tree has been removed.

Although this should not cause impact to navigation, please take heed of any instructions issued by contractors during this time.

ADVICE (Wednesday 24 April 2024 until further notice)

Please be aware that there is a fallen tree in the navigation downstream of Orton Lock. Although passable, please navigate with extreme caution when in the area.

Denver Lock to Salters Lode Lock Crossing

Our contractors are currently progressing with the desilting work between
Denver Lock and Salters Lode Lock.
Once de-silting works have been completed at Denver Lock, de-silting works
will commence at tidal lock entrance at Salters Lode Lock.
We anticipate that works at Salters Lode Lock entrance will begin during the
week commencing Monday 27 May 2024 and will last into mid-June.

We will provide regular updates as the work progresses.

Cookham Bridge, Cookham reach

NAVIGATION ISSUE (Tuesday 23 April 2024 until further notice)

The main downstream navigation arch is obstructed by a tree stuck in the bridge support. Boaters should use other arches with caution. The obstruction will be removed when river conditions allow.
