Young volunteers help with balsam bashing

SCOUTS and Cubs from Uppermill kindly volunteered to help (Uppermill Community  Association) UCAN with this years’ Himalayan balsam bashing.

Over two evenings a very enthusiastic effort was made by them and thanks to their fantastic help a large area near the stepping stones has now been cleared of this invasive plant (figs 1&2).

UCAN have also tackled the roadside along Den Lane and made a good start on the balsam in the viaduct woodland helped by one of its youngest ever volunteers .

Other tasks during the month included painting at Wade Lock and general litter picking along the towpath.
