Sunken boat removed from canal

AN OLD abandoned wooden cruiser style boat that had been sunk for a few months is lifted out of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal near Burscough, writes Colin Wareing.

This boat had been sunk opposite the Slipway pub near Bridge 32, the Crabtree Lane swing bridge.

The Canal & River Trust have to go through quite a long process to establish ownership of abandoned vessels and try and arrange for the owner to sort out the boat, but if this comes to nothing CRT will have to foot the not inconsiderable bill to undertake these operations.

Burscough is a village on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal about 23 miles from Liverpool.
