Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigations: Construction of new towpath/cycleway

TOWPATH CLOSURE (8am Thursday 30 November 2017 until 5pm Friday 30 March 2018) Construction of new towpath/cycleway is taking place on the towpath outside Rotherham Football Club (cantilever walkway).

Please follow the signed diversion route through the grounds of Rotherham Football Club land.


Upper Trent: Bridge 8, Cranfleet Cut

ADVICE (Wednesday 22 November 2017 until Saturday 31 March 2018) HS2 Contractors will be undertaking non-intrusive ecological surveys located in Long Eaton Gravel Pits.

As part of these surveys it is proposed that wintering bird vantage surveys will also be undertaken from two vantage points located on Cranfleet Cut Bridge.

The Canal towpath and navigation will remain open and unaffected by the works.


Northampton Arm (Grand Union Canal): Bridge 4

ADVICE (Monday 20 November 2017 until Saturday 31 March 2018) Anglian Water contractors are carrying out horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations to install a new Rising Main under the canal.

The canal navigation and towpath will remain open and  largely unaffected by the works.


Kennet & Avon Canal: Bridge 149, Scotts Wharf Bridge

ADVICE (9am Monday 20 November 2017 until 5pm Saturday 31 March 2018) Wessex Water contractors are carrying out horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations to install a new rising main under the canal.

The canal navigation and towpath will remain open and largely unaffected by the works.


 

Kennet & Avon Canal: Lock 107, Blakes Lock

ADVICE (8am Monday 13 November 2017 until 5pm Friday 23 March 2018) Please note that the Environment Agency have published an update regarding the restoration work at Blakes Lock 107.  Work is now due to start on Monday 13 November.

Avon Navigation: Avon Lock, Tewkesbury

FULL STOPPAGE (Monday 6 November 2017 until estimated 23 February 2018) Refurbishment works to top gates, replacement of hydraulic rams and repair to damaged paddle gear.

Works will be intermittent over the stoppage period and booked passage may be possible at certain times.


Avon Navigation: Evesham Lock

FULL STOPPAGE ( Monday 6 November 2017 until estimated 23 February 2018) Lock to be dewatered for major repair to bottom cill and gate walkways.


Avon Navigation: Harvington  Lock

FULL STOPPAGE ( Monday 6 November 2017 until estimated 23 February 2018) Refurbishment works to gates and work on gate paddles.


Avon Navigation: Strensham Lock

FULL STOPPAGE (Monday 6 November 2017 until estimated 23 February 2018) Lock to be dewatered for major repair to paddles, cills and gates.


Kennet & Avon Canal: Bridge 1, Duke Street Bridge Ends At: Bridge 53, Whitehouse Footbridge

ADVICE (8.30am Monday 6 November 2017 until 4pm Wednesday 28 February 2018) Contractors will be carrying out Offside Vegetation Management between Reading and Newbury Bridge 53.

The navigation will remain open; however, you may experience short delays while works are being carried out.

Please follow the directions of the contractors on site and pass with caution.


 

Grand Union Canal: Bridge 23, Dodford Road Bridge Ends At: Bridge 24, Weedon Road

ADVICE (Monday 6 November 2017 until Saturday 31 March 2018) Third party contractors will mount cranes along both banks to facilitate lifting of materials for the construction of the A45 Dodmoor rail bridge.

During the lifting operations, boats and pedestrians will be held up briefly to ensure the works can be undertaken safely.

Canal boaters and towpath users should expect minor delays as they pass by the works.

The canal navigation and towpath will remain open.


 

Birmingham & Fazeley Canal: Fazeley Mill Marina – L6 Moorings

ADVICE (9am Wednesday 1 November 2017 until further notice) CRT are pleased to announce that following the closure of the Fazeley office and the associated customer service facilities, as of the 1st November, Fazeley Mill Marina on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal, managed by Pridewater Estates, will be opening up their Elsan and Bin facilities to canal users on CRT’s behalf.

These services are located just inside the marina entrance. A water point is also available and is located on the canal by the entrance.

These facilities will be available for 7 days a week between the hours of 9 and 5.


Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line):  Ferrrybridge Winter Mooring – S5/Woodlesford Winter Mooring

ADVICE (8am Wednesday 1 November 2017 until 5pm Friday 16 March 2018) These moorings will be used for winter permit holders between

1 November 2017 – 16 March 2018

Calder & Hebble Navigation: Salterhebble Lock – Visitor Moorings

Upper Trent: Cranfleet Cut/Sawley Cut – Visitor Moorings

ADVICE (Wednesday 1 November 2017 until Friday 16 March 2018) Winter Mooring

Kennet & Avon Canal: Lock 107, Blakes Lock

ADVICE (8am Monday 30 October 2017 until 5pm Friday 23 March 2018) Please be advised that the Environment Agency will be carrying out important restoration work to Blake’s Lock from 30 October 2017 to 23 March 2018.  The work will include:  repairing and re-sheeting lock gates, refurbishing lock chamber walls, replacing rubbing timbers and general repairs to the lock site area.

Blakes Lock is located just beyond the eastern edge of the Kennet & Avon Canal navigation, where the River Kennet flows into the River Thames.  It is owned and maintained by the Environment Agency.  Navigating to join or leave the River Thames will not be possible while the restoration work is underway.

Aire & Calder Navigation Main Line: Pipe Bridge upstream of Cow Lane Br

Update on 05/01/2018:

CRT have been advised by the Contractor that these works will be carried out until 28th February 2018.

RESTRICTION (8am Monday 23 October 2017  until 5pm Friday 19 January 2018) Northern Gas Networks are refurbishing a pipe bridge upstream of Cow Lane bridge which requires scaffolding to be erected.

Skippers should note that scaffold will be below the pipe bridge restricting height to 4m.

During erection and taking down of the scaffold delays of less than 20 minutes may occur

Skippers should slow down when approaching the bridge and be prepared to stop if requested.

Avon Navigation: Pershore Lock

RESTRICTION (Monday 9 October 2017 until 2 March 2018) The Works Team are conducting remedial works and refurbishment of  Pershore downstream Moorings. Work to improve the lower waiting mooring.

Please moor up and wait for direction from Banks men. Maximum wait will be
30 minutes.

Take care, slow speed, take direction from banksmen and signage.

Oxford Canal: Bridge 66, Clifton Road

TOWPATH CLOSURE (Monday 2 October 2017 until Saturday 1 September 2018) A Third Party Works contractor will be completely closing the towpath to facilitate the installation of a new road bridge and associated works.

Due to the severe safety risk to the public during the construction process, the towpath at this location will be closed to the general public and a diversion put in place.

The canal navigation will remain open but will be subject to restrictions as the pace of the works intensifies.


Regent’s Canal: Lock 3, Kentish Town Lock

RESTRICTION (9am Friday 8 September 2017 until 5pm Monday 14 May 2018) Third Party Works Contractor will be completely closing the towpath around their works to facilitate the brickwork phase of buildings which straddle the canal towpath and the landscaping works.

Due to the severe safety risk to the public the towpath at this location will be closed to the general public and a diversion put in place.

The Canal Navigation will remain open and operation of the lock will still be accessible.


 

Rochdale Canal: Bridge 91, Tarrif Road Bridge Ends At: Footbridge

ADVICE (7am Thursday 20 July 2017 until 5pm Thursday 31 May 2018) To accommodate building works alongside the canal. The canal and towpath will remain open during the works.


Old Main Line: Stone Street Bridge Ends At: Railway Bridge, Summit Tunnel

ADVICE (8am Monday 22 May 2017 until 6pm Friday 31 August 2018) Contractors on behalf of Highways England will be re-waterproofing the M5 motorway deck between the above locations. To facilitate these works scaffolding structures will be erected at most of the motorway supports along the length (Approximately 60 in number) & will be in place for most of the duration of the works. Short delays may be encountered during the erection/dismantling procedures, however adequate signage & banksmen will be in place when required.

The navigation & towpath will remain open with users managed through the works as necessary.
