VOLUNTEERS from the Halesworth New Reach Group welcomed representatives from the Ipswich branch of the Inland Waterways Association recently to take delivery of a new power brushcutter, purchased through a generous donation from the Ipswich group.
“We’ve been aware of efforts to restore Halesworth’s canal for many years,” said Ipswich IWA treasurer, Spencer Greystrong “and this new initiative attracted our attention. Our policy is to encourage and support groups like NRWG that want to restore historic waterways but lack sufficient funds.”
The gift of a new petrol brushcutter will make maintenance of the towpath and canal banks a lot easier. The group is very grateful to Ipswich IWA for their generosity and hopes to work more closely with the IWA in the future.
IWA volunteers have acheived spectacular results on other waterways and this summer will be continuing their work to restore the walls of nearby Geldeston lock on the River Waveney.
