From cradle to grave – RBOA is here for you!

WHETHER you are thinking about making your home on a boat, or are already living aboard, the Residential Boat Owners’ Association is here to help you on your journey.

It can do this in a number of ways, but whatever stage you are at, you can find a great deal of information by visiting the RBOA Stand, WW54, at the Crick Boat Show which takes place from 24th – 27th May inclusive.  Friday is a Preview Day, and Saturday, Sunday and Monday are the normal show days.

RBOA presents a free Seminar about living afloat on the  3 main show days.  These Seminars take place in the Seminar Marquee on the Show Site, at the following times:

Saturday 11.30 – 12.20

Sunday   10.30 – 11.30

Monday   2.15 – 3.15 p.m.

Each seminar is presented by Beryl McDowall, who has lived and worked on boats for some 50 years, including raising her son whilst working on commercial cargo-carrying vessels. Today she lives on a 62ft narrowboat which she designed and had built. She still goes boating, mostly single-handed these days.  If, having listened to her illustrated talk, you have any questions, there will be an opportunity to ask these, either at the seminar, or back at the RBOA stand.

One important message that RBOA tries to pass on is that you should never be afraid to ask a question because you think it is silly – Those you can meet on our stand have been on the same journey that you may be making very soon, deciding what sort of boat you want, where you will keep it, and much more. If you join us before you purchase a boat, we can help with information on design, equipment, and all the other things that help make life aboard enjoyable. If you already live aboard, RBOA hopes you will decide to join our membership. If you join, will receive our bi-monthly magazine, which keeps you up-to-date with legislation, etc. which might affect you – and it also has numerous articles by members about their journeys, experiences, etc.

Last year at the Crick Show RBOA launched a new edition of its book, Living Afloat, which will be on sale on our Stand WW54.  There you will also be able to get information about joining the RBOA, and can actually join us there and then if you wish.
