Brandon Lock and Downstream Channel
NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Thursday 8 January 2021 until further notice)
Please be aware that due to the December flood incident and as a result of the lock being used to discharge flood waters that the downstream navigation channel approach and exit to Brandon Lock has become significantly obstructed with silt. This is making navigation impossible for all but the shallowest drafted craft through to Brandon Lock which will remain closed until recovery works are undertaken to clear the navigation channel.
In addition planned works to install a new fish/eel pass are expected (subject to suitable weather conditions) to recommence at Brandon Lock from 11 January 2021 and are planned to be completed by early February 2021. These works are also subject of a separate notice for this same site/location.
Due to these works levels may vary in the area so we recommend mooring your vessel with
lines and rope arrangements capable of accommodating fluctuating water levels (Spring
lines for example).
Any vessels attempting to approach the lock will likely have an increased risk of grounding
or coming into contact with other obstructions not usually present. However you should only be navigating on the river in line with the current Government Coronavirus restrictions and latest
