Dogs take a lead to discover waterways

CANAL & River Trust (CRT) is enlisting the help of Liverpool’s four-legged friends to help keep people active this winter.

It is hosting a dog walk in Liverpool on Saturday, December 15 at 10am to help people embrace the local Leeds & Liverpool Canal on their doorsteps.

As well as getting some fresh air and gentle exercise and a free hot drink at the end, participants will find out about the rich history of the Stanley Flight and Liverpool’s industrial past. Canine companions will get doggie treats and a new bandana to help keep them warm (while supplies last).

Sara Ponting, volunteer team leader at CRT, said: “Stanley Flight is considered a hidden gem of the city so we’d love people to come along and find out more about this incredible feat of engineering and enjoy a stress-busting walk at the same time.

“Bringing a dog is not compulsory – so come along whether you have a four-legged friend or not and find out why life is better by water.”

The meeting point and car park is: Eldonian Village, Burlington Street, Liverpool L3 6LG. The nearest train station is Moorfields. For more information, contact: sara.ponting@canalrivertrust.org.uk
