Circus adds to all the fun of the festival

EVEN more family attractions have been announced for the eagerly anticipated Middlewich FAB Festival.

Organisers of the hugely popular festival, which is set to attract thousands of people to the town, have announced it will play host to Professor Panic’s Family Circus, as well as a ‘Busking Bus’ for musicians to showcase their talent, plus a new wines and spirits bar.

Saturday night sees the return of the FAB ceilidh, with Aardvark ceilidh band, at the Town Hall Function Suite at 8pm.

The 29th annual Middlewich FAB Festival will also see the return of The Kinderton as one of eight fringe venues playing host to a wide variety of entertainment, as well as the usual beer festival, funfair and floating market.

Taking place June 13-16, the town council-organised festival has become the most popular event on the Middlewich social calendar, attracting music-lovers from across the country.

The festival main-stage has a fantastic line up of star entertainment over the weekend, including chart-topping Dancing in the Moonlight band Toploaderand ’70s pop legends Showaddywaddy

Also set to wow the crowds is acclaimed singer-songwriter Emma Stevens, electro swing band Electric Swing Circus and Macclesfield-based rock duo The Virginmarys.

With the additional new attractions this year, Middlewich Town Council events manager Dave Thompson said there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“We promised to build on last year and make the 2019 festival our best so far, and (hopefully) that’s exactly what we’ve done,” he said.

“As well as the usual favourites, we also have a host of new attractions plus artists this year from Africa-Canada-India-Sweden, and Wigan!

“We’re counting down the days now until the festival kicks off and we can showcase our fabulous town and its waterways to the many thousands of visitors.”

Professor Panic’s Family Circus will be bringing its big top to the Market Field on June 15 and 16 from 10ameach day, with the annual funfair being set up on Civic Way car park for the duration of the weekend.

There will be plenty more for children and families to enjoy, with games, crafts, stalls, ice cream, and glitter face painting by Wish Upon A Sparkle, as well as the Greenhayes Farm Roadshow.

It’s going to be food and drink galore with the return of the food court boasting a huge variety, including Mexican street food, doughnuts, halloumi fries, hog roast, pizzas, Spanish churros, sandwiches and toasties.

All that can be washed down at the FAB Beer Festival on Market Field, celebrating the real ales of Cheshire with award-winning Merlin Brewery, or at the new wines and spirits bar by the Old Mule Bar.

The event will also play host to cocktail, gin and prosecco bars, so every taste is catered for.

‘The Busking Bus’ by St Luke’s Hospice can be found at Town Wharf on June 15 and 16 from noon, where entertainers and musicians are welcome to perform. People can also make donations to the hospice during the festival.

The FAB Parade (11am Saturday) will feature the Rajasthan Brass Band, street artists and Morris dancers; the Festival Praise Sunday Service takes place at 11am on Market Field, organised by Middlewich Churches Together; the increasingly popular floating market will be located between Town Bridge and the Big Lock from 10am every day; and a boat rally will see a colourful flotilla of narrowboats descend on Middlewich.

There will be boat trips (from Town Wharf) on Saturday and Sunday from noon with the Canal and River Trust and canalside crafts and stalls on Salinae and Town Wharf sites.

Also new this year is a special £10 ticket for Middlewich residents, available from the Town Council office for a limited time or until sold out.
