Tunnel trips and afternoon teas

SOME mothers do have them. Sons and daughters with a sense of humour are invited to take their mothers into the depths of a canal tunnel for Mother’s Day on Sunday March 26.

But the canal tunnel is not any old underground waterway – it is the Standedge Tunnel at Marsden, the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain.

Organisers at Standedge Visitor Centre says the tunnel trips remain popular throughout the season and on Mother’s Day, afternoon teas will be served in the cafe overlooking the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
