BW is auctioning off over 40 redundant workboats in an online sale.  The auction, which closes on 29 September 2010, includes workboats, hoppers, a selection of BW’s historic craft, boat engines and a range of contractor and ground maintenance plant.

GoIndustry DoveBid has been appointed to handle the auction and the full auction lot will be available to view online at www.go-dove.com/event-14547/British-Waterways-Workboats. Lists of crafts to be auctioned will also be available on www.waterscape.com at the beginning of September.  A mailcard detailing the sale is being sent to people who have already contacted GoIndustry DoveBid to express an interest in the boats, and previous purchasers have been notified by email.

Inspection of the boats is strictly by appointment  and must be booked through GoIndustry Dovebid – please see the above link for further details.

Stephen Hames, senior engineer at BW and responsible for the boat disposal, comments:  “We’ve assessed our fleet and are auctioning off craft that are surplus to requirements.  The boats add colour and character to our waterways and we hope to find new owners who will keep them afloat for years to come.”
