Not here for the beer

ON OUR continuing exploration of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal we walked from Colne to Salterforth and planned to eat at the Anchor Inn.

We arrived at 1.43pm to be told that the kitchen closed at 1.45pm; the pub was empty apart from two people eating in the snug. I looked at my watch and said that it was not yet 1.45pm, but the chap behind the bar couldn’t have cared less, the kitchen was closed.

We went on to another pub where we were told that they had a lot of business from people like us who had been to the Anchor only to find it had a closed kitchen. What a shame, this ancient and historic inn only wants to sell beer. The beer is excellent I have to add.
