CORONATION Street is moving to a new home - by the canal. After 51 years being filmed at Granada Studios in Quay Street, Manchester, the top soap is to move to a new home at Trafford Wharf on the Manchester Ship Canal at Salford Quays.

There are plans to switch to the new site, currently under construction in spring of next year.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts said: "The move is full steam ahead. It is a huge project and incredibly exciting."

He said the focus would still be on the main Coronation Street cobbles but some areas such as Victoria Street will be slightly extended.
