THE narrowboat from which a couple had a lucky escape when it suddenly sank in a deep stretch of the River Severn shortly after leaving Gloucester Dock, has now been recovered.

After leaving the dock lock and entering the Severn, the boat had travelled barely half a mile when it suddenly began taking on water.

The owner had the presence of mind to steer to the left-hand bank where he and his wife scrambled off the bows and up the bank.

The recovered boat is pictured leaving Gloucester Lock.
