I always read Old Bilge Pump first; and always agree with him, laughing heartily all the while.

We have three dogs, and can also say “not my dog” but have a shrewd suspicion that many non-boaters take their dogs on towpath walks and don’t clear up. Near Leek, in Staffordshire, is horrendous; and at Hungerford where I was shopping, a woman with a saluki in her car asked where the towpath was. I innocently directed her and later saw her returning to her car leaving a turd as big as the Ritz in the middle of the path. Ugh!
