ON Saturday 17 March 2012, the Century Theatre at Snibston, Coalville will play host to a performance of Where the Working Boats Went by popular folk duo Life and Times.
The show traces the 250 years of the development and demise of British canals through wonderful song, story and images.
National Waterways Museum 2012 events

THE National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port has announced details of its 2012 programme of events. As usual, the museum, located on the Shropshire Union Canal, will be hosting the popular Easter Boat Gathering, along with a host of other events throughout the year.
This is the second year that the Easter Gathering will be joined by a Sea Shanty Festival, with performances by traditional musicians.
Sharpness docks past and present

FRIENDS of the Gloucester Waterways Museum will host a talk by Dr Ray Wilson on Gloucester's only remaining working port and its fascinating history.
Beginning with the origins and construction of the docks, the evening will move on to a look at the vessels and their cargoes. The dockyard buildings and the social history of the area will also be explored. Held on February 28 at 7.30pm, Llanthony Warehouse, Gloucester. Contact 01452 526202.
Test yourself at Montgomery

THE Montgomery Canal Triathlon Endurance Challenge will be held on Saturday, June 2 and takes on the theme of Bikes, Boats and Boots.
The event is organised by the Friends of the Montgomery Canal and will see participants will travel 35 miles of towpath in one day. The route will take cyclists from Newtown to Welshpool – 13 miles.
Art at Audlem Mill

EVERY year, Audlem Mill in Cheshire hosts an exhibition of one of the largest number of canal paintings assembled anywhere.
This year's Canal Art Exhibition, from March 11 to April 15, will include paintings and some photographic art by many of the best canal artists in the country.
Guided tours of the Purton Hulks

THIS year's programme of guided tours of the Purton Hulks starts on Sunday March 18 at 1pm.
Marine historian L P Barnett will lead the two-hour tours around the site which was a winner of the Nautical Archaeological Society’s: Adopt A Wreck Award 2007, Certificate of Merit 2008 & Runner up 2009 and Gloucestershire Environmental Hero Finalist 2010.

A rare chance to see London in 3D

MANY people wearing glasses with blue and red lenses are expected to be found in the King’s Cross area between February and May.
They will be at the London Canal Museum, where techniques usually associated with the latest movie technologies will be used to show London in a brand-new, dimensionally different light.

PREPARATIONS are already well under way for the 5th Leeds Waterfront Festival and Boat Gathering this summer.
There will be boat trips, heritage boats, canoe sessions and dragon boats, plus live music, dancing, family activities, arts and crafts, food and drink.
More fun at the Puppet Barge

THERE will be more chances to see The Flight of Babuscha Baboon at the Puppet Barge each weekend until March 18.
The show tells the story of a baboon who wants to fly to the moon in a hot air balloon and has to save an elephant from ivory hunters.
