THE  2017 IWA National Trailboat Festival is to be held at the historic Moira Furnace, North West Leicestershire, on the restored length of the Ashby Canal over the late May bank holiday weekend (May 27-28)

There will be a wide range of entertainment for all at the event which is being organised by the Moira Canal Festival committee of the Ashby Canal Trust and will revolve around the canal..

There will be a visit from the Coldstream Guards 1815, with their living history village and drill demonstrations, and the old ways will be recreated with a demonstration of horse drawn boating – courtesy of Shreck – he can pull a heavy boat but is as gentle as they come.

A Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast is planned as well as music with an assortment of bands and singers over the weekend. Morris dancing will liven things up and there will be fun for  the children, live steam, rides, a variety of stalls and demonstrations, boats, bar and refreshments.

Van Buren, a member of the Magic Circle, will also entertain with his illusions and juggling skills.

Trailable boats are invited from all over the country, there is a good slipway, and a chance to use the only lock on the Ashby Canal – and meet Mother Duck and her ducklings and enter a duck in the Duck Race along the canal!
