Great start to winter programme

SUMBA (Shropshire Union Middlewich Branch Adopters) have made a great start to its autumn/winter programme with enough volunteers to have four work party teams.

One team transported Gowy with three tons of topsoil to the three previously repaired wash walls at Bridges 11 to 12. This was raked over the gravel laid last month and compacted to provide a safe even surface ready for grass seed.

While from Bridge 2 to Cholmondeston Lock another party cleared all the overhanging obstructions along a mile of towpath and completed a litter pick.

The fourth party tackled towpath vegetation from Cholmondeston Lock to Sykes Hollow clearing the extensive towpath edge brash growth, plus overhanging branches and vegetation around the Sykes Hollow picnic area.

Future Work Parties

It is hoped to have the two workboats for towpath and offside vegetation clearance on Saturdays November 12, December 10, January 21, February 18 and March 18.

Hedge Laying will take place on the second Mondays and fourth Thursdays at the 48hr moorings above Cholmondeston Lock. Dates are: November  14 & 24; December 12; January 9 & 26; February  13 & 23 and March 13 & 23.

Raising funds

SUMBA will be running a tombola stall at Aqueduct Marina’s Christmas Fayre on Sunday November 27 from 10am to 4pm.
