Dudley Canal Trust celebrates award Gallery
NEARLY 50 years after the Government ordered the abandonment of the Dudley Canal, the tunnel was recognised as one of the waterways’ 21st century success stories with a Transport Trust award.
Beneath the red wheel are: Peter Stone, trustee of the Transport Trust; Stuart Wilkinson, chairman of the Transport Trust; Dudley Canal Trust chairman Vic Smallshire; the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley, Coun Peter and Mrs Hilary Miller; and Tony Hales
British Waterways chairman Tony Hales took it all in good part when he was ceremoniously ‘presented’ with this old British Waterways Board sign.
Nearly 50 years on the Dudley Canal Trust’s fleet of electrically powered narrowboats take more than 85,000 visitors a year into the tunnel complex.
