Anniversary gathering at South Kyme

Narrowboats moored in the spring sunshine at the South Kyme Gathering

SLEAFORD Navigation Trust will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the reopening to navigation of the bottom lock near South Kyme at its annual boat gathering over the early May bank holiday weekend (April 29-May 1, 2017).

This restoration milestone by the then Sleaford Navigation Society allowed boats to travel the eight miles from the River Witham to Cobblers Lock.

Events will be taking place in the village throughout the weekend. Plans are afoot for a pub quiz and 80s disco as well as the traditional scarecrow competition and boaters’ church service.

It is hoped there will also be representation from canal societies, the local canoe club and the Environment Agency, offering a variety of activities.

There is no charge for attendance but booking is essential both for the gathering itself and for the different events over the weekend.
